Bursting with ideas for 2011
Ideas, ideas, ideas. Christmas is the time of year when we all have our thinking caps on in a sometimes frantic effort to come up with new, innovative and exciting ideas. Whether it’s a new venue for the office party, something different to put in the crackers or mind blowing Christmas presents, we are all wracking our brains to put a mile-wide smile on the faces of our friends and loved ones.
Here at the Edinburgh Conference Centre we are always on the look out for fresh ideas; ways of making our excellent customer service even better, ways of offering new services to customers, and strategies to promote the work we do in different and more effective ways.
In a bid to develop new ideas I recently attended the ICCA conference in Hyderabad, India. At the event, speakers and delegates from around the world gathered to exchange ideas about how to provide world class hospitality services. Areas discussed included – ‘Dare to be different’, ‘Fast growing mass channels to market’, ‘Yield and revenue management’, ‘Global strategies and objectives’ - all fascinating stuff!
India is an intriguing place, a contradiction of very rich and very poor. Its people are hugely welcoming and proud of their country, proud that people from across the world come to visit. It is also an historic and beautiful country. My trip was certainly worthwhile and I have returned inspired with ideas for taking the ECC forward in 2011 to build on the success we have had this year.
We recently hosted a conference of leading scientists and health professionals investigating a cure for Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a neurological disorder seen primarily in females which causes multiple developmental disabilities and leaves the sufferers completely dependent. The conference brought together scientists, health professionals and family members to further research towards a cure as well as to deepen the understanding and support of those afflicted.
We also had good news in the shape of confirmation that the ECC won the race to host a prestigious conference run by the United Nations Environment Programme and the European Energy Centre. The ‘Getting Ready for Renewable Energy – Green New Deal’ conference will take place at the conference centre on 21 January 2011 with a number of high profile delegates and speakers from around the world expected to attend.
This year, we are throwing an exciting Christmas party at the ECC. More details are available on this website. We would be delighted to welcome you to what will be a fun event- if you haven’t already booked!
Finally, as we get closer to the annual rush to complete projects and prepare for the new year I want to take this opportunity, on behalf of all of the staff at the ECC, to wish you a very happy and successful Christmas period – full of bright ideas and smiling faces.
